The Research Library for Reformation Studies is an interdisciplinary and internationally oriented study centre for the history and culture of the Reformation, its effects and influence.
It develops cataloguing and research projects based on its historical holdings. These focus on the Wittenberg Reformation as well as the formation of the Lutheran denomination and Lutheran orthodoxy of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries that developed from it. The library also promotes research on the history of universities and scholars in the late Middle Ages and early modern period, as well as on humanism.
The Research Library for Reformation Studies also supports projects organised by its shareholders. These include exhibitions and research on the holdings of the Luther Memorials Foundation in Saxony-Anhalt, as well as the research projects based at the Leucorea Foundation. The Research Library for Reformation Studies also supports external projects with library services by means of cooperation agreements.
